First of all, bear in mind that the weather is very unpredictable and changeable. Usually, we can have the 4 seasons in one day.

The average temperature in summer is 10ºC ( 50ºF ) but has the possibility for extreme swings.

Dress for the cold (hat, gloves, scarves).

Dress in layers as it is warm inside (van, stores) but pretty cold outside.

Walking shoes or hiking boots for wet / muddy ground are advised. Waterproof jackets are also advised.

  OPTION Nº 1  

 

NATIONAL PARK ( 4 Hours )

 

 

This beautiful place is located very close to USHUAIA PORT.

 

   On the way to the park we will drive through the city. After arriving to the park we proceed to stop at Ensenada Bay where the End of the World Post Office is located. Here tourists have the chance to stamp their passports as a souvenir.

 

  Then we will head towards Roca Lake, where guests can take a peaceful and charming walk around part of the lake, taking magnificent photos. After a short stroll, we will arrive at a coffee shop where you will be able to purchase hot chocolate and/or snacks while enjoying the panoramic view of the mountains, forest and rivers. I suggest you bring at least $20 USD for a snack at this stop.

 

 After our stop we will cross the Lapataia River, visiting the Cormoranes Archipelago, the Green lagoon and the Ovando River.

 

Finally we will drive to the Lapataia Bay, the end of the Panamerican Highway, where we will see the famous Alaskan mileage-marker sign before returning to the ship.

Your tour will include a few " LOW IMPACT" guided walks of 15 minutes each, a 30 minute coffee break, with the remainder of the time in our comfortable van with your amazing guide.

 OPTION Nº 2  

 

                  NATIONAL PARK + CITY TOUR + PRISON MUSEUM                                                                      (5 1/2 Hours)

 

This tour begins at the Touristic pier. We will travel along Maipu Avenue to see different points of interest like the Civic Square, where the national flag was hoisted for the first time, the old Government House, Nuestra Señora de la Merced old Church; all buildings known for their architecture and history. Afterwards we will cross a narrow path up to the old airport from where we will enjoy a panoramic view of the city and the mountain range that surrounds it. 

We continue through the "La Mision" neighborhood and the old airport where we will stop for scenic pictures from the beach, with an awesome view of the city located between the mountains and the sea.

Our next point of interest will be Las Hayas Hotel viewpoint in the middle of the mountain, where we will enjoy an amazing panoramic view of Ushuaia Bay, the Beagle Channel, the harbour and the Industrial neighborhood.

On our way down to the city, we will visit the Prison ( Maritime )Museum.

At the beginning of the 20 century Ushuaia was a penal colony, and the prison was built by the prisoners. It had got 5 pavilions with 386 individual cells. In 1947 it was closed down and at present is working as a very interesting museum.

 

(We will spend about 50 minutes on the city tour and 50 minutes in the museum.)

                                   National Park with Hiking ( 5 1/2 Hours )

 

 

 We depart from the port towards the west to visit a pristine and wonderful place which became a national park in 1960.

After arriving at the park  we will stop at Ensenada Bay where the End of the World Post Office is located. Here tourists have the chance to stamp their passports as a souvenir.

 

FIRST HIKE " LOW DIFFICULTY TRAIL - 40 MINUTES LONG " :

We start the first hike at Ensenada Bay, taking part of the Shore trail, while enjoying the awesome views of the Beagle Channel and its wildlife. At this point it is possible to see the flag trees ( trees bent by the strong Pacific Ocean winds ). From there it  is possible to observe the Murray Channel which was crossed by Charles Darwin and Captain Fitz Roy in 1830 when they discovered the Beagle Channel and interacted with the natives. It is also possible to get up close to archeological sites of 8000 years old, where the natives used to build their shelters.

 

   SECOND HIKE " LOW DIFFICULTY TRAIL - 20 MINUTES LONG":

We head towards Roca Lake, where guests can take a peaceful and charming walk around part of the lake, and part of Lapataia River taking magnificent photos. After a short stroll we will arrive at a coffee shop where you will be able to purchase hot chocolate and/or snacks while enjoying the panoramic view of the mountains, forest and rivers. THIRD HIKE " LOW DIFFICULTY TRAIL - 1 HOUR LONG":

We will walk beyond the actual End of The World (end of Tthe Panamerican Highway), surrounding Lapataia Bay where we will have amazing views of the Darwin Range which has the highest mountains on the island with year-round snow caps on the peaks.

Next you will experience a wonderful hike across the forest where we will observe impressive beaver dams. "If we are lucky, we may even spot a beaver or two."

 

Afterwards we will arrive at the end of the trail from where you will breath the freshest and purest air in the world while delighting in scenic views of the mountains, the forests, the snow and the sea.

Finally, you will ride in your comfortable van with your amazing guide, back to your ship.
