• Plaza Constitución (Constitution Square): Montevideo’s oldest plaza, also known as Plaza Matriz, recognized for its an ornate marble fountain, street vendor stalls, and antiques flea market

• Teatro Solís: neoclassical landmark and Uruguay’s premier performing arts center

• Catedral Metropolitana de Montevideo: the city’s main Roman Catholic basilica, built in 1790

• Plaza Independencia: Montevideo’s most important plaza, dominated by a 55-foot bronze statue of Uruguay Founding Father José Gervasio Artigas

• Palacio Legislativo: Uruguayan Parliament building constructed with 27 different colors of marble, all extracted from Uruguayan quarries; considered one of the three most luxurious marble buildings in the world

Lunch (2 hours)

 

After the city tour, you will visit your tour guide’s private home to enjoy a traditional Uruguayan lunch prepared by him and his family in their courtyard oven. The meats and vegetables—roasted “asado-style” over natural wood—will include chorizo sausages, ribs, beef, chicken, sweet red peppers, potatoes, and onions. To complete the meal, you will be served vegetable salads, bread, Uruguayan Tannat and Cabernet Sauvignon wines, mineral water, cola soft drinks, and vanilla or chocolate ice cream topped with Latin America dulce de leche caramel sauce.
